I've heard that moving house is the most stressful thing in life after a death in the family and divorce, but you know what? At least with funerals and divorces you have a set date to get things over and done with. Moving house just seems to drag on and on and on...
It has been nearly a year since we put our home up for sale and played host to about two dozen viewings. We had an offer in February, but it wasn't until May that we felt like everything was actually going ahead.
Goodbye, Garden House!
Every day there was another complication, more money to pay and less certainty that we'd still have our sanity come moving day. All the while we lived on bare boards and among boxes. As we stacked our possessions, we put more and more into bags destined for the charity shop. After a few weeks we had stocked the entire front window at Oxfam.Once we had a moving date, we flogged some furniture on ebay, including our dining table and chairs. Then our moving date, er, moved and we were left eating off our laps and digging through boxes trying to find where we'd packed away the cutlery.
We look forward so much to a change of scenery for a couple of weeks every year, and even consider it relaxing to live out of a suitcase, but a permanent change of scenery fills us with dread and causes consternation.
Hello, sunny Salford!
We love travelling, but hate moving!
