The photo that launched 1000 flights?

The Frommer's Travel Guide blog sponsors a travel photography group on the Flickr photography website.

When the Frommer's bloggers need a travel photo to illustrate a news item, they sift through the contributions to the Flickr group in order to find a suitable shot.

Lately I've noticed this photo of mine from Rome has been used fairly often on the blog. I hope it has inspired a few trips!

An announcement

I went along a few nights ago to the closing of the Seen in Salford exhibition at the Lowry Gallery to mix, mingle and enjoy some free wine. But mainly to enjoy some free wine!

It was a chance to see the shortlist of finalists on display (out of the nearly 90 entries they received) and to claim our free copies of the 2009 Salford calendar before they went on sale.

Prizes were given for a number of categories, including Young Photographer and Online Favourite. I'm sorry to say my email campaign didn't work this year. Never mind, I'm sure most of you were getting repetitive strain injury from clicking so much.

However, at the end of night the overall grand prize was announced and I was amazed to hear one of my photos had been awarded best in show by a panel of judges!

Here I am reliving the moment. As well as the prize certificate I received a wodge of camera shop vouchers, a book of photos from Salford's history and a snazzy USB pen drive.
